Running Advice
With the fairer weather fast approaching and the London Marathon in the horizon. The time is here for many runners to adorn their trainers, lace up and “just do it”!
The biggest hurdle for most runners completing the Marathon or any long-distance endeavour is injury. Here are five top tips that’ll help you run your race, finish in style and have fun at the same time.
Running Advice
1. Being Honest with yourself / run progression
The key is to be honest about where you’re starting. Choose a distance or duration that suits your current activity level. The goal here is to make steady progress avoid big increases in the distances or frequency or you run or you run the risk of burning yourself physically and mentally.
2. Hydration
There are lots if sports drinks and electrolytes available on the market moat if which aren’t needed for a recreational runner. Keep hydration simple drink plenty of water throughout your (2-3 litres depending on your size.)
3. Rest
Running is a great activity. It can leave you a rush of endorphins and sense of achievement. This makes it very easy to want to go running 4,5 or even 6 times per week. The fact is this is a marathon not a sprint and you are going to have to pace yourself.
It can take between 3-5 months for the physiological changes in the body to take place from running e.g. improved cardiovascular system (increased blood volume and myocardial muscle growth), stronger tendons, ligaments. Doing several runs per week won’t accelerate this process over-training will hinder it.
4. Stretch regularly
Stretching regularly can be done before and after a run. It’s important because gradual dynamic stretching before a run can prevent injury. Stretching after a run also helps reduce muscle soreness and can improve your flexibility. A lack of muscle flexibility in your quads, hamstrings or glutes will mean that a potential injury is hot on your heels.
5. Following a structured program
Following a structured training program will help allow you to track your progress. It may also allow you to identify where you can make improvements e.g. leg strength, flexibility, join mobility (strength + flexibility around a joint’s range of movement.) if you need a run specific training program please reach out to a fitness coach in Club or through the MyWellness App.

We have a couple of exciting new addition to our Group exercise schedule. On Sunday 10th March we have Glutes and Abs starting with Evander at 14:15 and Tuesday 5th March, Mother and Baby Fitness will begin with Sophie at 13:30. This is great opportunity for new mums to focus on your physical and mental well-being and will empower you to gain strength each week, through a mix of cardio, body weight and light weight training, with a qualified pre and post-natal instructor. Some classes have been removed due to very low attendance.
Group Exercise Continued
We also have a few changes to our schedule which we think you will enjoy. Rob will be taking over Yoga on Wednesday evenings and we welcome Jocelynne who has taken over Pilates on Thursday mornings.
A reduced timetable will run from the 29th of March to the 1st of April for the Easter weekend.
Please remember to book for your classes via the app or at reception. Our booking policy allows you to book up to 8 days in advance and right up until the start time of the class. Life happens, and if you cannot attend for any reason, you can cancel up to 30 minutes before the start of the class. Booking in advance means that you have an allocated space if arriving by the start time of the class. It also allows us to communicate with you in the event of any alterations to the class. Lastly, it means we can better plan the session if we know the number of attendees in advance, and the data collected helps up to programme the timetable effectively.
In the event that you miss 3 booked classes in a 30-day period, you will lose booking rights for 7 days. You may of course turn of and attend a class if there is space
